I know the topic kind of closed, but would like to say, I'm SORRY people were horrible to you.
I think its a deep topic why show folks tend to be 'clicqhy' and sometimes plain arrogant to newcomers. I thinkpartly its because of the nature of dog showing being only a beauty contest with no reason need giving whatsoever for one week your dog being up there and the next 'down there'... and of course one often thinks we own the best dog. It tends to almost BEG people to bitch and mutter because when all is said and done, losing at a show can if you are a certain ilk, be like a teacher walking up to you at your kids school and saying 'your kid is ugly and I like the other kids a LOT more!'....
And some put themselves through this week after week
Now coming from a horse background, I found it exactly the same. Showing was catty, showjumping wasn't. Why? Because if you had a fence down you had a fence down, and you didn't win. In showing your horse could go as well as it has ever gone and be dumped and it is all subjective.
Of course couple that with the fact, as everyone said, everyone is different and it adds up to the fact that I would say there are about 15 people in the show world I really have stacks of time for and call friends, and everyone else you smile and nod politely, say their puppy looks nice (as we all do - wink) and walk on....
Its not always bad by any means, its just ours is a sociable sport, lots of standing round for hours, and it does mean people tend to go into groups, and in those groups tend to not always be the nicest people in the world - I hear myself do it sometimes and want to give myself a damn good thrashing for it
There is no excuse for being rude to you and for a JUDGE to be rude or swear at you is disgusting and I would immediately report it to the secretary. They may do nothing but I bet they never ask the nasty bast*rd again and rightly so.
