He pulls me like crazy!! When he finally gets to the dog he jumps up and down, leaps all over them, chases them and basically goes nuts, he is a devil to try and get away aswell especially if he is off the lead. Do you think he is trying to dominate other dogs? Oh yeah and he doesnt get scared of growling barking and nasty dogs he thinks they are playing so he jumps on them...very dangerous!!
I will try your jumping up and squealing today, taking him out any minute so i thought i would see if there were any more tips!!!

At 7 months old he has not yet learned canine manners. Trouble is, he is getting near the age where some dog might decide to teach him some! As a baby he is protected by the fact that an adult will not normally hurt a baby. But as he grows older that restriction disappears.

Be very careful about treats. Think about this very carefully. Mackie starts to bark and pull towards other dogs. You give him a treat to distract him. Now, what does he see? "WOW! When I bark and pull towards those other dogs, mum gives me a treat!! I MUST be doing the right thing here!!!" Do you see what I mean? It is so easy to reward the undesirable thing and actually reinforce the very behaviour you are trying to stop.

Timing is everything. Analise the situation. There is a distance where he will obey. Get inside that distance and it will all go to pieces. Your job is to reduce that distance until you finally have control at any distance however small. Start by telling him to sit when you are still well in the distance where you have control and give him a treat when he is sat quiet.

As the other dog gets closer it will reach a point where Mackie gets up. This is the time for a really firm "NO!" and put him back into the sit. Don't wait for him to do it, compell him to. You are not asking, you are telling. If you are able to, give him another treat, but don't risk it if you thing he will get up, you don't want to reinforce the wrong doing. Keep quietly teling him to stay, deepening your voice into a fishwife's voice if he even thinks about getting up.

As the other dog gets past things start to get easier and now is the time when you can quietly tell him he is a good boy for staying, rewarding him with another treat if he remains sitting quiet.

When doing training like this it's nice if you can solicite the help of a friend and dog. You can then set up situations. Start with the other dog passing by at a distance where it only just gets into the range where you start to loose control, getting closer as Mackie gets better.

Dog clubs are normally great places for teaching a dog canine manners, because there are plenty of other dogs there in a controlled environment.

Regards, John

Brodie is also turning in to a nightmare dog, he never does as he is told,so he has has his halti fitted back on for walks, He is now doesnt answer to Brodie, he answers to 'STOP IT'
I think we need to get firmer with him, it worries me that he will get out of control. He seems to have so much energy, he comes back from a long walk and still wnats more.

Max is the same. He is very friendly towards other dogs and people. He goes mental and jumps up, bumps other dogs, and just behaves crazy.

How do I teach him to socialise properly? I will only let him go up to dogs I know are friendly, but as soon as he reaches the dog he goes mental and I have trouble getting him away, even with his halti on. He totally forgets Im even there, no matter what I say. When I eventually get him away he will usually be so excited that he jumps up on me and starts playing up.

He behaves the same around people and because he has filled out a bit now people, especially children, get scared if he leaps towards them.

I can easily get him to sit before the dog/person approaches but when they pass he ignores me and leaps towards them.
