Theres a lab that lives up the road to me and he is huge he is the same age as my Bailey, everytime i see him i think OMG poor dog. They take him out a least twice a day, so i wonder whether he has a medical condition i don't know. It's so sad because he's only just 2 and he looks so old. He waddles and it is all hanging below his face and his stomach
We met a lady with a chocolate labrador at the park a couple of weeks back - he was only one year old, but his tummy was well on it's way to hitting the floor. She couldn't believe how lean Yorkie at 5mths younger looked in comparison. Her excuse was "he doesn't like to play games".. He certainly seemed to enjoy bouncing round and playing fetch with my two
It was on our local TV news twice last night. Their excuse was that the dog was unable to exercise properly due to arthritis etc. in her hips.
I think personally that they simply MUST have been overfeeding as well. Plenty of dogs end up on restricted or no exercise for medical reasons, and with careful diet management most can still be stopped from putting on excessive weight.
Apparently the dog has now lost over three stone under RSPCA care, so that puts him at about 8 stone now. Still a way to go, but shows it can be done.
