hi i am thinking about a crate but the utility room is small it is only about 6ft max by 3ft it doesnt have a door but it does have a curtain and a stair gate so do you think there would be much difference in getting a crate? i leave the radio on low and a small light on in the kitchen which just puts a little light in utility room but Bailey still howles etc do you think a crate would make much difference? Thanks Sarah Question

Sarah I think your utility room sounds ideal! As long as there are no cables, power points or switches at dog level.....

I love crates but the idea is to confine and protect the dog when you are not around and also to help with its housetraining. Your utility sounds like it minics this perfectly.

Just a suggestion, but a crate might be cosier for him and make him feel more comforted. It is smaller and therefore much more of a den/safe haven.

6ft x 3ft is small to us, but probably too large to a pup and would probably get widdled in and messed in one end, and slept in at the other.

hi the utility room is actually 5 ft 6 inch by 3 ft and a crate would be about 4ft by 2ft 6inch so not a great difference is it worth it? thanks Sarah

Yes, cos you can move the crate around to suit you and pup will always feel like it's home wherever it is (in kithcne, in lounge in car etc)

I used the utility room for Meg to begin with, with good success, but got a crate for when we go camping, tried it one night and never went back to utility. I think because she loved it so much and we could keep an eye on her! Wink

I tried to use my utility room with Simba but she howled and yelped, it had a stairgate on it but she just jumped at it. After advice on here I got a crate and she loved it, never made a sound. Like others have said what is small to us is not always small to them.

regards

I can't see there being much difference. Lucy isn't 'crate' trained. But the conservatory is hers, her quite big Laughing haven!
Its up to you whatever works best for you and pup! Very Happy

Why don't you get a crate and try? If it's no good, re-sell it.
