Well today I did my first transport trip. I picked up Shadow at Stafford services on M6 to take him to Frankley services on M5.
Andrea did the first leg of his journey and said he was listening to her singing in her van. She could see his head going from side to side as he listened intently. When I arrived at Stafford S's (a little late due to traffic) he was having a play on the carpark. He was stunning. I'm sure he is full lab. he had a beautiful head, such pleading eyes, and a very waggy tail, but OMG was he thin. You could see his spine and all his ribs.
I put him on the back seat of my car with a harness on. He'd undone the seatbelt before I got off the carpark.(thought maybe I hadn't done it up properly) I secured him again and off we went. He undid it again before I'd even gone 10 miles. I had to pull off the Motorway and this time tried a different seatbelt . I phoned Jennie to let her know we were running late as the M6 trafic was going no-where fast. He cried a bit but as soon as I touched him he stopped crying. He rested his head on my shoulder and licked my ear and face
We got to the M5 eventually and started moving faster. He was a bit restless. Next thing he's walking through between seats and sitting on the passenger seat proud as punch:D I then had to get the front seatbelt through the harness whilst driving at 60mph Well I did it and he was happy as Larry after that. He just lay down with his head on my knee. He was so happy as long as he had contact, bless him. How could he be so loving and trusting after all he's been through?
Well I handed him over to Jennie with a heavy heart. I think if my OH had met him he could have been persuaded
I'm looking forward to being able to help again. Maybe next time I'll take OH with me
Have a good life Shadow. You deserve the best.
Aww Isnt it lovely transporting them Lesley? Numan was just as gorgeous and they'll now be togther at the kennels until they find their forever homes. Which Im sure wont be long
Oh gosh Lesley what a beautiful story! I have tears at work reading that!
Is there any other posts here about Shadow's background that I could read? (I take it you're working for a rescue organisation)
He sounds a beautiful soul, thank you for helping him!

I don't have any details of Shadows background but he had obviously been neglected. This is the first time I have done anything like this and just responded to a thread on here asking for help. He was going from Rochdale
www. rochdale-dog-rescue.com to Ynysboeth in Wales. I'm not sure whether he is going to another shelter or a foster home but he is such a beauty I don't think he'll have trouble finding a forever home.
Fay....it was a great experience transporting Shadow. I want to give up work now and do it all the time but then I suppose if I didn't work I may not have the funds to do it.
I do hope he has got his forever home waiting. That would be the icing on the cake for me.
