......... everyone cared for their dogs like members on here do.

There are some damaged people around who are capable of inflicting terrible harm to their animals, not to mention their children. That is dreadfully sad ......... but what I find equally disturbing is the vast number of people who just seem to have no feelings at all.

They get a dog, its not badly treated or neglected but when it gets old or sick, just gets chucked away like a bit of rubbish.
I've known people to dump an old dog with a rescue centre and quite cheerfully announce that they are off to get a puppy !

Thank goodness I am then able to come on here and see things like Wendy's montage of Charlie, and read all the things members are prepared to do to help their sick and old dogs. Cheered up and faith almost restored Smile

I've never been able to understand it Fay. I had a person come to my club with a sucession of dogs, none ever kept beyond about 5 years old. As soon as it failed to win top honours in the ring it was rehomed. "I cannot afford passengers." she said. My dogs finish their working life then retire gracefully to the hearth rug. They still go out with me training, where they help teach the new puppy. I watched Amy working on Saturday and I could have been watching a carbon copy of Anna! (Trouble is, she's taught her a couple of her bad ways too!!!)

Regards, John

I get so upset Crying or Very sad watching the animal programs when you see mistreated animals, I don't know what possesses people to do those horrible things Evil or Very Mad It is heartbreaking.
Just because a dog is getting older does it mean it doesn't need love and security, I don't think so!!!. bet they wouldn't throw their elderly relative out!!

Yes I agree with you all, its very depressing seeing/hearing these things, I've just read the other thread about a man 'throwing ' his dog around. I suppose its all part of the same appalling attitude of some owners, uncaring and in some cases downright cruel.

But they do Sharon Crying or Very sad
How many many "golden oldies" get put into old folks homes and gradually get forgotten about.

I know they do Jane Crying or Very sad It's horrid.
Perhaps they may get left alone when their old and they may get some idea of what it's like, but then again i doubt it, they don't have any feelings Evil or Very Mad

They do Fay, they do! Anna sends Amy to give me the hard stare when I'm making a cup of tea, then turns up herself just as I'm pouring it! In fact, Anna get's Amy to do all the dirty work these days!! Wink

Regards, John
