Hi All
The next West of England Labrador Retriever Club open show on the 13th January is being judge by Mrs F Coward-Scholes "Rossgilde" just wondering if anyone has come across her in the past and could tell me whats she like.
Does she like juniors showing in the ring or will this go against Steph right from the start.
Any news will be much appreciated.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and give them a chance.... sometimes two if your dog ws out of coat or some other factor might have affected your result.
Few people know reallywhat a judge will like, even if they have been under them before judges can change track midstream and do things which appear baffling to the ringside or on their track history.
I keep a book with judges in it, and basically give them a tick or a cross as to if I wouldf go under them again, and if not, if maybe I WOULD butb with a dog of a slightly differing type.
Ok you make a few trips to come home empty handed, but its impossible to say if a judge will like your dog till you;ve tried em' once!
She has at least 4 breeds, so would count her as an allrounder myself. They *tend* to prefer moderate dogs in good condition who move well. I find Golden judges, because of the fact Goldens are *generally* stacked, do not need a waggy dog in the ring, they are not influenced by 'look at me' waggy ring presence as a *rule* as their eye is used to judging dogs standing stock still in a stack.
Thanks Di, I was hoping that you would see this post. Ive got several things going against us and just wanted to see what you might think of the Judge, First the fact that Steph is handling Kimmy, and that she's disabled although I tend not to tell them, and that Kimmy has had the snip. and that I have to tell the judge that before we even go in the ring.
But thanks for the advice we will still give it a go and you never know what might happen.
Thanks again.

Now you are going to have to forgive me but is 'Kimmy' a boy? Its a nice name for a boy, I just presumed 'he' was a girl... poor Kimmy if he is!
Good on you for showing a castrated dog (if he is a dog) showing SHOULD be about fun too and there is plenty of worth in showing off what his parents and grandparents have produced for those who feel showing should be ALL about breeding (which, incidentally, i personally don't - not for everyone).
It shows responsibility in your attitude to me. I've seen many the entire male in the showring who SHOULD have the snip for fear of him reproducing himself, his movement or his temperament!
Good luck and I am certain a junior handler, or a disabled handler will, by any ethical human being worth their salts, be given a fair crack of the whip. Infact possibly she may be given more attention which will certainly, if the dog is nice, give him more time to show himself at his best to the rest of us!
Yes sorry Di but my Kimmy is a boy, your not the first to think he's a girl, and I sometimes think I've got the gayest boy around especially when he try to amount a boy.
Thanks for all your kind words they are really appreciated and given me a bit more hope.
I'll let everyone know how Steph gets on.
Thanks

Tell her to relax, enjoy it, give off an air of confidence and watch, most importantly, the person infront of her and do what they do. Watch the pattern the judge asks her to move in and ask if she has any questions about it briefly to the judge, they NEVER mind. What they HATE is when someone, through not being sure what was asked and not watching the others before them, just does a half hearted circle type potato shaped thing round the ring and back - grin.
Remember whatever pattern the judge is basically trying to see straight lines. Those who weave down the ring and back nearly mowing the judge down when they get back to her are not giving their dog a fair chance of showing clean, straight, true movement....
