Hi just wondered how the ladies on the fourum get on with walking their dogs alone. I walk both mine twice a day on my own but I stick to roads and populated routes as I worry about being attacked (it has never happend thankfully) but I would love to have the convidence to walk them round the feilds and in the woods near ours as this way charly can have a good run off lead twice a day instead of for a little while in the eveing with my partner. I do go to the park but can only let him off lead when no other person or dog is about because he loves other dogs (don't they all!) and just wants to play with them which is fine if the owner agrees but you never know and with people he jumps up them (visions of knocking little ol dears or kids over!!).
so do you walk in quiet areas on your own or do you all stick to well populated areas.
I should add that my partner takes him out in the evening and he has a 30 min of lead walk aswell.
I walk Danny alone all the time, through the woods and fields on the nearby farmland...not at night though. I am quite nervous sometimes, but I try not to let that bother me...Danny is a good deterent I think
I will walk mine on the beach alone during the day, and around the streets at night - don't think I would go near woods on my own - that said we have more beaches and open space than woods around here.
A couple of times when I have been on the beach in winter I have realised that I am quite vulnerable, as although I take my mobile with me, most of the local beaches are out of signal range
I walk through fields on my own and also some wooded areas. I will confess to feeling vulnerable on occasions - e.g. when I haven't seen anyone at all or seen something/someone who looks a bit odd. I always take my mobile, rarely take the same route 2 days running and assume Zadie is something of a deterrent. I'll keep doing it though as the pleasure of the walk for both myself and Zadie outweighs the vulnerability.
I live opposite quite a big heath and am very lucky in that alot of people who walk their dogs over there regularly are very friendly and look out for each other so i feel safe over there and also with Alfie i feel quite safe
I walk alone more often than not. OH is in a wheelchair, so not always practical for him to come with me. It's not too bad.. though I don't think I'd ever walk on my own during the dark nights!
I walk in woods and parks around here on my own, if I didn't Fudge wouldn't get much of a run during the week. I don't always feel confident but I do always have my mobile
Hi I often walk alone. Happy to walk most places alone during the day although I like to see open space around me like the beach, i wouldnt be brave enought to go to the woods.
Dark nights I stick to my local area which I feel safe to walk around the streets dressed in hat gloves waterproofs the lot, I'm sure no one would be able to tell what sex I am at a distance!!
I take my girls out on my own almost everyday......I walk the woods and the fields and to be honest, I feel safer there than I do in the multistorey carpark in the town. I do live in Basildon though..
I've always walked the woods on my own...I do always have my mobile on me...I know where I am going...I have the rangers number on my phone....I have two largish dogs with me...and a long stick...and I don't look sheepish......Put it this way...I wouldn't mess with me, if I saw me coming the other way....
I walk Abbey in the mornings early 6.45 when now its still dark, i walk her through the village and let her have a good off lead run round a field near the church. I am always looking back checking no one is around and i never go without my mobile !
I cant walk her any later as i leave for work so dont have much choice really
