Thanks for the info Alison - I may try to get along, to view only, depending on how the Christmas prep is going. I've never been to a show and I've always assumed it wouldn't be my thing - but I'd be very interested in watching and you just never know do you
Haven't come across her Di - what I do know is I can get to Colchester as quickly as I can get to the North of my own country - and the roads to Colchester are better
It's immaterial anyway as I will be in a show just up the road
I cant get onto that website, computer probably playing up again
Its a bit far to go just for our labs, but do you have pug or Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever classes? It would be worth the drive for a car-full! Also, what date is the show on, our pug may be too young anyway!!
What else is on that day Sue? I am quite a way from Colchester but like the judge and am visiting relatives, so your show might be nearer my home! Which show?
Di
Talking of mad distances, went from home to Great Livermere in Suffolk on Tuesday to run in the KSS Driven Walked Up one day stake. Finally pulled a run after being well down the draw lists for trial after trial!
You pays your £35.00, plus petrol, 4.30am start, Nearly three hours to get there - an hour waiting to start - best part of a mile walked up before enough game fell for the first dogs in line to retrieve. get called into line. Walk at heel for about 20 paces (through thick thick sugar beet which is REALLY taxing to walk through), the guns shot a **** and a partridge. Dog to the right sent for the first of them, hunts-finds-picks neatly. Sent Jade for the left hand bird, she hunts well, handles averagely, then whilst working a little bit out the area my bird fell in, just lietrally a few feet out, stumbles over a bird NONE of us, judges, stewards or I remembered was shot much earlier in the trial, thought wasn't hit, must have come down later here, she picks it quickly, returns and is therefore immediately OUT for picking the 'wrong bird'. How do we know it was the wrong bird... it was a hen pheasant, neither of the two birds previously shot!
It sounds harsh but thats the rules of the game however unfortunate. So judge says 'lead on Madam, sorry' 'next dog please!' and biting your wobbling lip like CRAZY you make the long slow journey back through the sugar beet to the waiting dogs and then 200 something miles home ;-0 A good friend also running thrust a Humbug in my hand and muttered 'don't you dare blub' so I didn't.... grin.
I was in line, in action, for about 2 minutes, literally.
Chuckle. It should put us off eh?...... Now where DID I leave that pile of entry forms for January?
