Hi,

Just wanted to know what sort of training clubs you attend (not for puppies)

Are they so many week courses or are they ongoing and you can move through the classes from level 1 to advanced or they just a straight ongoing class?

Are the dogs allowed to greet each other or do they discourage this?

How much do they cost?

I need to make a decision on what class i'm going to do with bailey and just wondered what you people done.

Di....if you see this thanks for your advice yesterday puppy is sorted from the advice you gave me Wink

My both attend dog club weekly. It is an ongoing class, which they then progress through the classes. The annual membership is on the member, which is £5 a year, then the class is £2.50 per dog, the class lasts for an hour.

I think it is better to have an ongoing class, so it does not matter if you don't go every week.

We tend to get there a bit early, so when we sit down with our coffee chatting, the dogs do say hello to each other, under controlled manner though, all on leads. I don't do this with Henry though as he does not like entire males, and has a go at them.

I'm really glad!

I'm very naughty and tend to only attend occasional ringcraft classes with my puppies and do the rest of the work at home till 6 months old until they go into gundog classes as and when avaliable.

I would say a class where you can go weekly is a boon, if you miss a few weeks now and then so be it.... rather than private schooling.

Di

Toby goes to a weekly obedience class. The classes are in pre-booked blocks of 6 weeks, £40 for the course and there are three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced. The classes are kept quite small with a max of 8-10 dogs in a class.

The dogs are actively encouraged to interact before and after class, off the lead in a safe, enclosed environment.

Both Toby and I love class - if you find a good one I'm sure you and Bailey with love it. Smile

Thanks for your advice Very Happy

Going to have a look at a couple this week.

Do your training classes help with individual problems if needed?

I think £145 for 11 lessons seems quite expensive then Shocked

£145 for 11 lessons!!!!!! Good grief Shocked I would expect Jean Donaldson to be teaching that class if I was paying that much!!!! Laughing

I used to pay £4 per lesson with Doobs which was obedience but to be honest it got really boring. I haven't found a good class for my other two so they are home taught.

This club is no-where near you but on it's website it has information about costs, how long the courses are and what is covered. It may help you to make a decision on a club near you. It;s my old club in the UK. www.sddts.org

I don't know where abouts you are in Essex, but I go here

http://www.bdts.org.uk/

They seem to cater for the needs of most dogs and they are not expensive (£20 for lifetime membership, for as many dogs as you own too and £2 per 1/2 hour Wink ).
