Maggie (9 months) has been behaving oddly for a couple of weeks now, hiding from OH, whining for no reason, which I have put down to the second fear stage, and yesterday she chewed up my Blood Test form which I had left on the windowsill. While this in itself was not out of character, when I took it from her and said her name in a growly voice she actually COWERED DOWN ON THE FLOOR She has never done this before.
Just now, while I was on the laptop, she came into the dining room and without warning just weed on the floor!!! I said "what are you doing?" and again she cowered down as if I was going to beat her
Like Vicky and Lucy I am on "seasonwatch" as she has been licking herself a lot and "blown" her coat (got that term from Kayc he he!).
Does anyone think it is all connected? She is well in herself, eating, drinking etc. and looks the picture of health.
Lucy, Marinda, our Takeaway GT is looking more doubtful by the minute
hmmm didnt Lucy post about pheebs cowering a few months ago? Not a scooby about seasons though hehe I think Ruby was born without a womb so will never have one hehehehehe
I am led to believe season behaviour can be anything remotly moody though so it could be
I would bet my last dollar it is all connected , although they can act like this for weeks before they come into season.
She obviously needs a little tlc, pity they cant have a big bar of cadburys and hide under the duvet
Jacque and Roxy xx
____________ I am only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand !
Awww poor Maggie and poor you....Don't know much about dogs in season so can't comment on that.
With regards to the second fear stage...nothing would surprise me - as you know Danny is going through this too at the moment, although he is displaying different behaviours....he certainly isn't cowering in any way, in fact quite the opposite, on occasion he goes a bit hooly and jumps at me barking etc. nothing too aggressive though
I'm sorry but I'm not sure what to do re: the cowering...other than I don't think you should be "babying" her when she does it, and just to carry on as usual...hopefully someone with better advice will be along soon.
Hope she comes out of it soon anyway...keep you chin up
Thats true - lucy did post a while back about pheebs cowering when she called her - however she still does this (i believe)....
How bizzar Di, i have no experiance but at a guess id say seasonwatch is going to be the next big thing.... so now both of your pups are spoiling Baileys hopes of playing with you all at our takeaway GT..... bluddy women... lol
Sounds very seasonish to me. One thing I would say is not to mollycoddle her at all (I know it's what us girlies like ). I'm not quite clear has she already has a season? If so it could be a phantom pregnancy.
It certainly sounds like Maggies season is iminent. You better start to regularly tissue testing after sleeping. Fudge went all silly with hers, cowering occasionally and going all wimpified for want of a better word, she also weed indoors a couple of times, she just didn't bother asking to go out, she did itright in front of me too. HTH
Thanks for your replies everyone. I am trying to ignore this behaviour as far as poss and not "baby" her. Nicola, she hasn't had her first season yet. OH will be thrilled, 2 lots of PMT to cope with !
Poor Mags! Pheebs is being weird as well at the mo (see my post in this section)
Yep she still cowers when I call her but then I think that's probably because I'm the boss and she knows it I did worry in the beginning that people would think I beat her but at the end of the day, I know I don't and that's all that matters. She has started rolling over now when I call her and she only does it sometimes - usually when she is tired or after she greets me if I have been away a long time.
In the past few days she has come to me for cuddles instead of her dad and that is a marked change in her behaviour.
I'm totallu clueless as to what to suggest cos I'm just miandering along hoping for the best, going back to basics and not wrapping her in cotton wool
