Thanks guys!
Just ordered the book on Amazon, and a clicker too. Timing looks quite tricky, but we'll have a go and see how we get on. She's got the basic commands so I'm looking for other ways to keep her interested - we'll start with Speak and Be Quiet - excited now!

Good Luck! Let us know how you get on?
Remember you have to do an initial session with the dog for him/her to understand that the clicker means they've done something correct and that its followed by a treat (this will be the first section of the book but it's very important to not move on too early from this as clicker training stems from this!)
Dont worry about the timing you get better with practice. The whole point is that the 'click' will always be quicker than a conventional verbal praise would be so its very precise.
After the click the dog knows its done something correct so can be patient for a few seconds for its treat. |
Do a session with a partner to start with if you find you're all fingers n thumbs.

Stormy never barked until he was 13 months, but he winged and I hated that, so I taught him the quiet, but I am still trying to get him to speak on command. He only barks if he sees something as a threat, so not often. When he does I say good boy to speak and then say speak, but so far no joy as yet. I did the same think with the quiet, he winged, I said quiet, the second he went quiet, I praised him and said good boy quiet, he soon learnt that one.
