Karen, lamness from ED tends to come on slowly over several weeks. This sudden overnight bad lameness rather sounds like an injury. HAS anything happened or had the chance to happen in the last 12 hours? Has he been stiff or lame on that joint before? Has the limp gradually increased over a few days or come flying in after a single walk?
no nothing has happened in the last 12 hours.we took him afew months back about the same thing weve noticed him limping now and again but just thought it was stiff when he had been lay down for a while.
Ahhhh, sorry to say that extra info makes it sound a lot more like classic ED. I would say its NOT the end of the world even if it is diagnoised.... even if it may feel that it is. Remember ED means anything from a slightly limp when he has overdone it through to real disablement. The vast majority of ED cases do NOT need surgery and can be treated by careful diet and exercise, occasionally painkillers and easy to find and use vitamins and supplements.
Sleep on your vets advice if they diagnoise it, even if they use the classic phrase 'the worst case i've ever seen' (which they seem to use every other case....) Don't commit to any surgery or long term measures until you have got used to the shock and thought it through and got seom second opinions maybe from other vets or his breeder. His breeder is important here if a helpful and approachable person. There is no need to feel badly towards them nor them to you so i'm sure she can help and advise (although sadly few breeders will admit they have ever had a case before - sigh).
Whether they like it or not the information if he does have ED is and should be useful to them in planning future breedings (as one would wish not to mix quite the same genes again so strongly if any common sense is used on their part even from just caution).
Sorry to hear about Scooby Karen. Hope he's better soon.
Try not to get too down about it - easier said than done I know but hopefully when you go to see the orthopaedic vet on Wednesday he'll give you better news.
Healing vibes coming for Scooby~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ they worked for Charlie, and ((((((BIG HUGS)))))) for you
