Ok, I am sorry for bringing the subject up again, but I just wanted some tips for getting Tilly to pull less on her walks.
She is not terrible, but she always tend to walk ahead and at a faster pace. I tell her 'slowly' and she does most of the time slow down, however not always....
You can either change direction as soon as the lead goes tense (I hold a loop of lead in my hand and as soon as the lead goes tense, I drop the loop and change direction at the same time - so no tug of war!) or you can stop everytime the lead goes tense. Lead training styles vary from dog to dog and what works for some won't work for others.
Doobs was the hardest to lead train and I had to get one to one training in the end - so worth it! Can't say he is 100% all the time but he is 100% better than he was!!!
I tend to do the indecisive idiot routine...As soon as the lead goes tight, I spin round and walk the other way. When they are little, sometimes it can takes me ages just to get to the end of my front garden path and yes I do get funny looks....but do I care, do I heck.

Only a couple of days, although they need frequent reminders when they are young. As soon as you realise they are pulling you must react, otherwise they get straight back in the habit of towing you along.
I had the worst pulling session with sonas this afternoon the kids were with us so in the end i sent them on ahead as all te stopping and strting was getting on their nerves!! anyway i started doing the turn around and go the other wayroutine so on the wrong way she walked right beside me so i good girled her and turned to head on our way and she would pull like a train again!!! it was really tiring and i hope it was one off as she is ussually good on the lead!!! but we were in the middle of the woods where is used to being off lead so maybe she did not appreciate the change! but she was put on lead for being cheeky and not coming when called!!!! couldn't win today!!!
I do exactly as Sonia does, but in the past, I was told to stop and wait for the dog to come to me praise him and then walk on. However, Stormy was very stubborn and sometimes I waited for ages, even if I used a treat to lure him to heel, so I do prefer using the loop and going the other way. If you watch dog borstal on BBC3 Monday evenings that is the way they do it too.
That's the routine Ihave been using(looped lead then turn) I have been having some great walks, but still have the odd bad ones, when I feel I am getting nowhere fast (literally).
What I have started to do as the lead tenses as I turn I stamp my foot at the same time, which seems to give meg a signal, so if a good walk I stamp and she slows down with no need to turn. It is all a learning curve though for us both! Jut feels it goes on forever some times
