Hi, I'm new to this web site and delighted to find that it has already answered my questions about exercise and feeding. I wonder if you can tell me anything about the dogs that make up Severus's family tree.
Sev, kennel name Roundcopse Flax, was a lucky find. We lost our much loved golden retriever earlier this year and wanted another dog, but not one that looked like our old Bill. So, a black lab seemed the obvious choice. Good with the grandchildren, OK to take to school (i'm a retired teacher who can't quite give up) and great for good walks in the country park. We live in the middle of one. By chance we heard about Sev. The last of the litter (also I believe the largest), not wanted after all by the person who had reserved him as he was 'too laid back'. He is shy and a bit dependent on me at the moment, but he is gorgeous. A handsome black lab with long legs, a long slim face and a very long thin tail - and given the chance he runs like the wind. I wondered if his ancestory would explain these traits. His pedigree is as follows.
Thank you for taking the time to read this - Penny.

Runs like the wind- thats much Like Willow- Had a Collie before her as Jets pal- I am sure she would have given him a run for his money If I believed in such thing I would think she has Sparkys spirit- Well thats what my Mum reckons anyway.
Doesnt look as if mine are as closely related as I thought looking at the layout of the pedigree above...
Your description could be a description for Willow too. Yet Jet has to me a more 'classic' head and much stockier than Willow will ever be- Difference between Dog and Bitch I thought when We first got her - but she has become much more 'ladylike' than I thought she would.
Crikey - I am not that up on my working dogs, but that reads like a whose who of working labradors Some very famous names & prolific studs there - I am sure JohnW & Di will be along soon and able to tell you more about the dogs
I have just Googled Severus- only because I am sad and OH has the NFL on and I am all sported out after the golf today- not that I am much of a golf fan- either
A history teacher by any chance? I found the item facinating and with knowing the names of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus from the Gladiator films....A very strong name I think.
given the chance he runs like the wind. I wondered if his ancestory would explain these traits.
Err, yes! It would! As Sue says, it really does read like a "Who's who" of working Labs.
One correction for you, Dolbrenin Sian is no longer just a Field Trials winner, she is a Field Trials Champion. We gave her breeder and owner, Barbara Kuen a round of appause for making her up at the Bucks Area URC AGM in February. Many a time I've stood and watched Sian working. She's a lovely bitch and Barbara is a wonderful person, always there with a word of advice or support, she helped me so much when I was training Anna.
Then comes Endacott. What can I say about Ann Courtier that I have not said before. To me, one of the top Field Trials trainers in the country and one of the top breeders of Field Trials dogs! She is probably best know for the two dogs which she bred, Endacott Stoer Of Quabrook and his litter sister Endacott Spindle and Spindle's illustrious son, Endacott Soames of Riversway. Ann's first comment when I told her I was taking early retirement was, "So you will be wanting your yellow puppy now then." Good as her word, my Amy arrived.
My advice to you is use his brain! He should have plenty of it to use!
Thanks John. It seems that Severus is rather well connected. I'll certainly keep him busy and active, though he is a pet dog and I know nothing about Field Trials. I notice that he is a very different shape to the other local labs. Much taller, slimmer and with a longer face. I understand that that is because he is from a working dog background. Is that right?
Thanks again, the lab lovers here certainly keep you busy.
Penny and Sev.
Trying to work out how to add a larger photo than the little avatar.
They are a more "Racey" looking dog Penny. Sian is a beautiful slimline girl. I remember Barbara tossing 6 dummies out into a wood for 5 of us with young dogs to retrieve. The object is the least advanced dog goes first because it will be easier to find a dummy. My Anna went last when there were only two dummies left and hunted until she found it. Then Barbara sent Sian for the last dummy, she went into the wood and returned in seconds. A fraction of the time our dogs had taken!

They believe I'll get up to mischief if they dont keep me busy!!!!!
Many thanks for all the information you have given me regarding the background of my Severus.
Inspired, I 'googled' and few names and found out more. I even found a couple of pictures of Sevvy's sire, Dipplelodge Raven of Riversway. What a handsome chap he is! I'm going to put them in an album with Sev's pics. (If I can). I can't believe Sevvy will grow to that size but I expect he'll be somewhere close.
