Just been looking at the errors my prgrams picked up, it has one dog siring another at the age of 4 months!!, have just checked the pedigree and it seems this is right
Ch. Ballyduff Marketeer
22 May 1974 (sire)
Ch. Squire of Ballyduff
(Dog) 10 Oct 1974
It also has him as siring Martin of Mardas at aged 11 months, more like 9 months if you take into account the bitches gestation.
Does anyone have a different date for Marketeer in their database, or is it correct that he produced the other one at 4 months of age?!!
I also have Sandylands Shadow whose breeding record (according to the site I use) show her having two litters on 7 Oct 1960 and 30 May 1961, was the breeding regime different at that time, allowing a bitch to have more than one litter a year?
I also have several dogs that have sired litters after 8 years of age, I assume its different for dog in that they can go on longer than bitches?
Sorry for all this, but am still trying to learn all this stuff

No it can't be right. I mean he would of had to of mated the bitch at 7 weeks of age I've known some 'little humpers' in my time but that takes the biscuit. has to be something wrong there - I'll have a dig.

Yes this would be perfectly possible. If she was 'back to back' mated, so assoon as she had her first season after the first pups werwe born she was mated again, its very possible. There are some who would not consider the occasional back to back litter wrong even now. Me being one of them in very particular circumstances, but thats for another debate So yes, it was allowed certainly.

Absolutely, like the Rod Stewarts and Des O' Connors of this world, males can go on to double figures and some...my own older dog here sired his last litter at 11 years and 3 months.
Just as a footnote for you Mary or anyone, there is no Kennel Club ruling forbidding more than one litter registered to a bitch in a 12month period, although it is a strongly held belief that they DO have this stipulation. It is not the case.
The only limitations on registering the puppies are:
1) That the bitch is over 12 months of age at the time of mating
2) That she has not reached her 8th birthday at the time of mating
3) That she has not already whelped 6 litters (but if you think about it the puppy farms get round this by not registering a couple of early and late litters so only REGISTERING 6 litters to her)
4) She is resident in the UK at the time of whelping.
5) Both parents are kennel Club registered.
Di, I have a friend who breeds/shows Boxers and I'm sure she's told me they can only register 4 litters with the KC. Is it different for different breeds of dog? Or have I not paid attention when she's spoken about it?
No regardless of breed six is the maximum. Breeders get ideasin their heads about what the KC do and don't allow and sometimes its misguided or handed down by gossip. Any bitch is allowed six litters through the KC.
Something is definitely not right there Mary - Interestingly ALL the databases show the same dates (or year) - which is probably why I have one of of them but not both in my database as the system clearly picked it up as a mistake
Have now found another date for Marketeer of 28/10/1971
