LOL John, but my own feeling is they should have to pass a SGWC before making up as a GUNDOG breed. The other groups can do whatever they feel right and proper, mostly nothing I suppose except maybe the Hound group, but the GUNDOG group should pull itself together....
I always think not every dog should work in our breed, but they should mentally and physcially be capable of it should the owners wish to put the training work in. If the top of the tree champions have not a jot of proven working ability in them, trainability, steadiness and biddability, what hope do five generations down from them have on a pet pedigree?
Radical stuff.... I shan't be writing that one in breed notes for fear of death threats....chuckle!

Arr, but we are the converted Di. But then, look at what the Duke of Wellington said when he became President of the LRC. His avowed aim is to bring the working and show Labs back to nearer than the same thing. I guess another Dual Champion won't happen in our lifetime, but I wish it could. I accept not everyone wants to work their dog in the field, and for that matter not everyone gets the chance. It's not easy to get that first foothold on a shoot. But at least the dogs in the ring should LOOK as if they could do a day in the field. Of course, so many show people have no comprehension what "A day in the field" entails! But that is where the judges come in. If they would judge just keeping that in the back of their mind then the shape in the ring would begin to change back towards the dogs of a few years ago. Possibly FT's and WT's should include a conformation element? (Now that really will get me shot!) HPR WT's often include one.
Regards, John
