At the moment when Annie is crated she does not have any bedding, which just leaves the metal tray, I am feeling very mean about this, but when ever I put some kind of bedding in there, whether it is a proper dog bed, quilt, blanket, towels, she just chews them up and starts to eat them, hence having to remove everything. Evil or Very Mad

She also does this if she is left out in the living room, she will eat anything material.

If anyone has any suggestions as to whether there is something that I could spray on the bedding, or something else I could try, I would be grateful to try anything.....

Thanks

Troy was a nightmare for this and I went through no end of duvets, blankets, proper dog beds etc. Nothing seemed to stop him, I tried all the sprays.

Now the only thing we have found that it almost indestructable is a proper rug, the sort you would put on the floor in front of the fire for instance.

Although he has nibbled the edges of it, it is so closely woven and well made that he doesn`t seem to be bothered to try and chew it too much. It`s too much effort for him. The rug he has, I bought on sale in B & Q and it cost me £30, a bargin as it has lasted about 8 months so far, with only a couple of nibbles on the corners. The other beauty is that it can be taken out and shampooed, just as you would the carpet, so it is easy to keep clean and hoover.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried Vet Bedding? I'm not saying that it's not chewable, but Tilly loves to chew anything material, but has not attempted to chew her bedding apart from a little bit at the ends....

Joey has caused 2 blockages eating his bedding! It can be very dangerous if it gets caught up in their insides!

The only thing I have found which is Joey-proof in his crate is to put some vet bed in the metal tray, and then wrap an old sheet round the whole metal tray (much like you would with a fitted sheet) so that the edges of the sheet are all fastened with safety pins under the tray and he can't get to them.

It is a right faff having to change the sheet every week but its well worth it for not having to worry about blockages! Very Happy

Mmmmm i am watching this thread closely as Abbey didnt chew her bedding for months so we bought her a doggie duvet for her crate and she has chewed the corners and one day had even un stuffed half the quilt Evil or Very Mad
When she was little she had chewed holes in her blankets and towels that were in her crate too!

Dont they realise that if they want a nice snuggly bed they must not chew them up !! Rolling Eyes

Sorry no advice to give i just dont know the answer Rolling Eyes

thanks Nic

I am very worried about the chance she may get a blockage, that is why she now only sleeps on the metal tray, which is why I am feeling so mean, but it is better that than risk a blockage.

Sounds like a good idea about the sheet, I will go out and buy some vet bed today for her....

Thanks again

Hope my description made sense Tammy.

It takes a bit of patience but you soon get the technique! My idea is that as he can't get at any corners or edges, there's nothing to chew! Very Happy

I was told to make sure that you get the vet bedding that DOESN'T have the non slip backing....apparently the one without it goes through the system ok should they decide to eat it!!
