we were given a recipe for liver or tuna cake (basically a way of bulking out the treat using flour) i use it as i know what ingredients are in it v's processed treats.
I only use this in small doses though (ie once a week at training)
the liver cake contains a clove of garlic so its super whiffy! and therefore basil finds it more interesting than ordinary liver.
its a bit faffy baking a cake for the dog but its v easy and makes enough to cut up and freeze for a few weeks supply. i've yet to find a dog who doesnt think its scrumpilicious!
liver cake:
1lb liver
1 1b granary or white flour
3eggs
2 cloves garlic
little oil
splosh of milk.
Liquidise all ingredients then add flour and mix. cook in microwave for about 10 mins or in over as you would a victoria sponge.
tuna cake (better for more sensitive digestive systems):
2 sml tins tuna (inc oil)
100g wholemeal flour
1egg
2 cloves garlic
milk to bind.
mix all ingredients, roll out and mark then bake at 180c.
if you have time give it a try?
