OH NO - the elderly lady tonight told me Ruby howls for ages when we leave her alone I am devestated I thought she was ok Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

She said its only been happening for a few weeks and that she stops after about 15 mins Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I dont know what to do nothing has changed a few weeks ago that I can think of (am a bit panicky and scared atm though so something may coem to me)

The only thing i can think of is the kids we live in a cul de sac kind of place and the kids are out and Ruby barks at them she does have a kind of howly bark and maybe that could be it? She is never barking or howling when we go or when we get back so I am sooo upset about this and am going to feel so awful next time I leave her.

We are going to video her next time and see what happens we leave her kongs and she doesnt touch them until we get back. She doesnt chew or seem stressed or anything.

She was de crated about 3 months ago and we put the crate away about a month ago.

HHHEELLLPPPPPP someone tell me she isnt miserable PPLLEEAAASSEEE

What do I do now Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Hi Vicky

Sounds a bit like seperation anxiety.

Are you making low key exits and entrances?

I doubt she`s miserable Vicky, but a thought occurs to me, does Ruby started barking coincide with her being decrated?.

If it was the kids, now they are back at school Ruby should be ok if she can`t hear them playing at the back Smile

Try not to worry to much, i`m sure others will say the same and have some ideas too Smile

If it's only been happening for the last few weeks it could have something to do with the local kids having been on school holidays, if she has a howly bark, as you say, she could be letting them know she's there even if you're not, then when there's no disturbance to her territorry she quietens down until you get back. Our old next door neighbours dog did this everytime the kids were off, it took us a while to work it out, but it deffinately seemed to fit the pattern.

Oh no, what a thing to come right out of the blue. I'd feel awful too, hugs your way.

She probably is barking and the old lady mistook it.

Maybe see if she's happier back in her crate, she might feel more secure? Just thinking aloud really.

Ohh try not to panic Vicky (easier said than done I know Wink ) . She probably is barking at the kids in the street. I'm sure if she had seperation anxiety she would bark for longer than 15 mins and there would be other signs too....chewing or leaving puddles.

Is your neighbour sure it was Ruby? One of my neighbours came and told me my dogs bark when I'm out at work all day...I don't even go out to work Shocked ...It turned out it was the house next door but one...they had a new puppy and it didn't like to be left Rolling Eyes .

Perhaps ask the neighbour the other side (if you have one) just to be sure Wink .

Just one final thought...the kids outside wouldn't be teasing Ruby would they????

Just re-read (am trying to think of everything), it seems to be since you took the crate away?

Maybe she still used to go and curl up in there? Perhaps try putting it back but leave her out? This and your video might help?

Why don't you set up the video camera tomorrow and both pop out for half an hour?

You could have a look and set your mind at rest?
