Crikey! She sounds awful.. Had she done that to one of my dogs, she'd have had a quick foot up the backside, heading in the direction of the front door!
As others have said, I'd be honest with her about why you don't want her back, explain that you don't feel the way she treated your dog is acceptable and you're worried that she will do a hell of a lot more harm than good.
I'd also get in touch with your vets and let them know of your experience, if they're happy to recommend her at the moment, it may be because nobody has stepped up to let them know what she is really like so far.
Sorry your family and your dog had to go through this! I hope he's getting back to his usual self now.
thi is what annoys me about some dog trainers, they just think that they can steam in all guns blazing !
We took Jansen to a school nearby to us a few weeks ago, and it as awful she was being too rough with Jansen trying to get him lie down, if she knew anything she would know that he feels vunerable laying down with all those new dogs & pinning him to the floor just aint going to help.
& she talked to us like we were a bunch of idiots !
Needless to say we havent been back !
I also took my mums dog to agility a couple of times but didnt go back as a few of the women who were really into it would smack the dog with the leads if the did something wrong..
one even picked her dog up & threw it on the floor...
When I told my mum that we were going to get a puppy, one of the things she said to me was I was not to hit it. I was very upset that she thought I would. I don't hit my son so why should I hit a dog. Her reason was that a family friend had a black lab and she used to often hit it with a rolled up news paper, slap its rear, rubbed it's nose in accidents, used a choke chain harshly and all in the name of training. Poor dog must of been pertrefied of her.
The initials of the company she was from isn`t BB by any chance is it?, like the others I`d have thrown her out the first time she used a knee on my dog never mind grabbing his scruff
I agree with others. I would have booted her out and also I would inform the vet. He surely doesn't know her methods.
The lifting the knee works very well when applied properly. You lift the knee gently towards the chest. No contact is necessary. The dogs legs just fall to the floor either side of your leg.
The problem with the turning the back method is that I have known dogs that will scramble round the front of you on 2 legs. This can hurt and a small child using that method could be injured.
Which ever method works for you is best but all visitors and family should use the same method if possible.
That trainer sounds rubbish...please tell your vet how damaging she is so no one else has to go through what your dog did.
Any decent trainer should explain to you first what they are planning on doing, why they are doing it, what they hope to acheive by it AND ask you if you are happy with it and have any questions.
They should also ask you lots of questions first about the dog, he's likes and dislikes, any problems, his life style, his medical history etc before even starting any training program.
GRRRRRRR it makes me sooooooo mad
Becs and the Gang
I have had a few trainers and one to one lessons, but I would never let anyone do that to my dog. I would have thrown her out after she raised her knee the first time. There is no need to be that cruel. My first trainer was fantastic, she helped me with lots of things that stormy did wrong as a pup, but she never once did anything that would hurt him, yet we got the results. Gentle training does pay off, it just takes longer, but I think that is worth it. To stop stormy jumping up as a pup, I use to come in the front door and I would go down to his level, so he never had to jump up. When we had a visitor, I put him on lead and he had to sit before the visitor approached him and he only got a fuss when he was sitting. He never jumps up and never has done and yet I did nothing harsh like that trainer did.
