Hi has anyone used a Walkezee harness? In my first puppy class, the usual instructor recommended a Halti head collar type of thing, that goes round the nose. So I bought one. The second class, we had a 'stand in' instructor, who said that she doesn't like these, as puppies should be allowed to be puppies and have freedom!?
So she recommended a Walkezee harness, which I could order online, and gave me the website address. Trouble is, I can't find the website. Has anyone got a Walkezee harness, and are they any different to the Halti harness, which goes around the chest?
I have got to stop her pulling, or I will look like a baboon! Polite answers only please
yay! thanks, how could I not find it. Anyway, I might give it a go, this lady in the class used one and said it was like magic, and the effect was immediate, Fingers crossed!

I have used it for 8 years now with great success.
It can be used in 5 different ways so may be you should have tried them all.
The collar strap is supposed to move as it just prevents the chest strap from dropping down in front of the legs and tripping the dog up!
The Walkezee is a far superior product to the halti harness and the customer service is excellent.

Hmmm, playing devils advocate here, but surely the point of training classes is to train the dog and handler to work together. If the trainer is any good you will not need to resort to harnesses, head collars and the like.
A well trained dog will walk nicely by your side on a flat collar with a loose lead!
Seriously, if I attended a class and on the first lesson they were suggesting these sort of things I would walk, no run, away and find another class .
Yes a puppy needs to be a puppy but when they are on the lead they need to behave right from the start. That's what a collar and lead is all about. They can hooly and play off lead as much as they like but on lead demands manners. That is what training is for. If you say they need to be a puppy and it's OK to play up on the lead, how far do you take that? He's a puppy/young dog/adolescent...... there are no end of excuses
It is better to start out how you mean to go on, gently but concistently insisting on good on lead behaviour, reward when he gets it right and strategically ignore or gently correct when he gets it wrong, and never, never walk when the lead is tight. Just stop until it is loose then reward and walk on, a little patience now means you'll be able to do away with harnesses and head collars forever.
I have to admit that I was thinking what gnome said aswell.
Don't get me wrong, we use a halti with Jake and before that we tried a harness but we tried everything else first and only really switched to a halti when his pulling got so bad that it was difficult to walk him.
Ideally, you want a puppy to walk to heel nicely with a flat collar and lead and the best time to teach them that is whilst they're young.
I'd be wary of a trainer that suggested in a first puppy class that you stop training with a flat collar and start using something else...
We tried the walkeeze and it didn't work at all for us. Sam hated it. Having said that despite much patience and practice and he can walk perfectly with me at home, in the garden and at friends on a flat collar and lead he won't walk properly in one when out and about As he has medical issues anyway I don't want him getting yanked by pulling away from me so I walk him in a harness but a soft fleece one which he really likes. A few other LFers have them too http://dog-games-shop.co.uk/harnesses-fleece-lined They won't stop her from pulling but will give you more control and stop her choaking herself, then you've a chance to work on the rest and boring as it is it seems the only answer is practise practise practise!
Despite constant training and practice from me I could not get Dylan to stop pulling. I didn't want to get a harness cos i felt like I was giving in and failing BUT my arms could take no more.
I bought a walkezee harness after recommendations on here and I think it is brilliant.
Dylan stopped pulling the second I put it on him and walking with him on a lead actually became a pleasure.
I decided to walk him after a while without the harness to see what he would do. I was really surprised to find he no longer pulled and walked really nicely. He will still pull sometimes if he sees one of his pals but nowhere near the amount he used to pull.
What about using a slip lead instead of a harness - are they any good? I've just started reading one of the Dog Whisperer books and he swears by them. Don't know what age you can use them from though
