hi this problem is becoming quite annoying buddy has started jumping up at people when the come into the house or when anyone has food in their hand i take hold of him by the collar and tell him no but as soonm as i let go he does it again it embarrassing especially if its a stranger who comes to the house i have even tried shutting him in another room for five minutes but it makes no difference eventually he does calm down and goes and lies down and leaves them alone what else can i do to stop this behaviour.

I am interested in the replys to this post, I am going through the same problem with Meg, she also gives up after the visitor has been in for a while.
I have tried everything even keep treats by the door so when people call they make her sit first then treat, but all she does is wait for the treat then jump. Soooo frustrating Confused

My method for teaching not to jump up is to lift one knee gently up between their front legs towards the chin. It's just a gentle lift and the paws fall either side of your leg and down to the floor Smile
There's no need to whack your dog in the chest or on the chin with your knee Laughing Laughing I don't think that would help Wink
I know others have other methods but this has always worked well for me and friends of mine but it is what works best for you.

My district nurse that breeds dogs also uses this method and says it's very effective.

We are going to try it as we have exactly the same problem with Tilly and jumping - it doesn't matter how many times we say no it doesn't sink in - she is just way too excited to meet people!!

We have got her to sit when the doorbell goes but the minute the door is open it's jump central station!!!

We have the same problem with Tilly, she's six and a half months old and jumps at anyone as she's such a friendly dog and wants to greet everyone and everything! We still need to deal with the jumping at people when they first walk through the door but what we've started doing is turning our back to her and ignore it so that when she jumps so she cant see our face and she very quickly stops. Once she has stopped jumping we turn back and greet her hugely once she has sat down!

Ive just come back from taking her for a walk too and training her to walk to heal and walk nicely off the lead without running off. I could see a guy walking towards me in the distance (my partner says its like being in the SAS walking the dog, having to be 20 steps ahead and thinking!! Laughing ). had Tilly on the lead and the guy came towards us and she started to pull slightly but i used a little bit of cheese/biscuit to distract her and lots of praised as i carried on walking she didnt do too bad.

Lucy x

rosze is 2 and does this now and then mostly to ppl that come to the house she has never met before...

when she used to do it all teh time and to us and would tel her no push her down then walk away from her totally ignore her then when she was calm i would fuss her.. or when she jumped up tirn my back on her and again walk away..

if she does it while outside iw ill shout her NO DOWN and normally it works unless that is of course the person just fusses her like mad and says *oh dont worry about it*..grrr..lmao..

We tried the ignoring and turning our backs on her, whilst it worked for us as we knew what to do, it was a nightmare trying to get anyone else who came through the door to do the same....!!

Good luck if it's working though as that's great!

yeh it is a nightmare when people outside start to fuss them, just undoes everything your trying to teach. I might reverse the training for the annoying people who do that and say 'JUMP'.... Tilly would much rather do that than 'SIT', its more fun! Laughing Laughing
