I was just wondering really if anyone elses labs still play-bite?

We practiced a lot of bite inhibition with Joey when he was a pup, so he never bites hard, but he still loves to bite us!

He loves sucking and chewing on OH's fingers when we are snuggled up on the couch (I tell OH not to let him but he doesn't mind it!)

He also gets quite bitey when he is being giddy and is overexcited - like if we are getting ready for a walk he might jump up and try to grab our arms or clothes. Or when I get in from work and we have a cuddle he sometimes gets giddy and tries to bite my arms.

We still practise the ignoring and folding arms techinique, and he stops immediately when we do this.

I can't help feeling that it is part of his playing with us and he really enjoys it, and is it ok to let him do it or should he have grown out of it by now? (He's 13 months old)

Oh also he only really does it with me and OH - I know he's not a danger to my little brothers and sisters because if he tries it on with them and we tell him 'no' and get them to do the ignoring thing he stops straight away.

Just wondering really! Very Happy

Thank goodness!

I was worried everyone was going to go 'err......no.......you've raised a naughty puppy!' Laughing

I think he thinks its just as fun for us as it is for him Wink , and he never bites hard.

Maybe he'll calm down when he's about 6 or 7! Laughing

I was beginning to get worried too as Danny is just the same! Laughing

I have been worrying that we will have to have someone to "look at him", i.e. a behaviourist, but you have now eleviated my fears...thanks guys

Yes, Corbie does it when he gets all hyper.

If he starts barking as well, we've given up giving him time out, as he thinks we're playing and runs under the dining table.. .instead, we leave the room. He doesn't like that and soon stops when we come back in Laughing

I just thought that was a problem i had with Sam i'm so glad to see lots of others in the same boat.

When Sam has a mad half hour he play bites and mauls like mad but only mainly with me if he is in a giddy mood he always heads in my direction to have a chew only ever really on my arms.

And Sam will be 2 in November.

You dont know how relieved this has made me! Thought we'd bred a monster in Maggie - she still mouths when excited.

Even Woody does occasionally when we come home - luckily he doesnt put any pressure on!

CJ is the same and he`s over 2yo now, like the others seems to happen when he gets over excited.
