  |
|
For a bit of fun in obedience training they are asking us to get our dogs to hold a retrieve by getting them to learn the hold first.
Now Majic cannot grasp this concept at all if a retrieve has been thrown she will happily pick up, bring back and drop on the floor which my OH has taught them to do a few choice words from me on that matter
They have told us to let them take it and get them to hold and if having probs hold the bottom jaw but she is having non of this, she has done the odd one if Dexter shows her what to do first as he does it naturally but no such luck with Majic.
Anyhelp please?

What are you using to teach her Carroll?
I only ask because we started this recently at training and Baxter just would NOT hold - toys, dummies, anything!
They told us to get one of those dumbells - he has a lovely pink one now, and he took to it straight away, no chewing, mouthing, just sit and hold until he's told to give it back. Now he's grasped the concept he'll hold anythng.
We also had dogs at training that wouldn't hold the wrong size dumbell - noce they got the right one, the dog was fine and learned quickly - weird, but they did!
Might not help at all!

It was the only coluor big one I could find in any of the shops - all the others looked like he could swallow them whole!
It's a very trendy neon pink though, very 80's!
Looks more orange here!

Could you try putting something nice on it, like meat paste and rewarding when she put her mouth round it, even for half a second, then build it up.
We were also told to put them in a sit and stand above them before we gave it to them, as if they lift their head up it makes it easier to sit the object in their mouth for a few seconds without them dropping it, you can lift it out and reward before they get their head down far enough to drop it!
Just rambling aloud now!
