Hi
I am in a dilema !!
Abbey and i have got into a routine over the summer that goes like this ;
I get up, have a bath, get dressed, dry my hair all while abbey is still downstairs asleep but often she is waiting at the bottom of the stairs for me to go down.
I then go downstairs and do a few bits and pieces - make sarnies etc then between 5.30-5.45 we go out for a walk.
This is now my problem if it gets any later than 5.45 Abbey starts barking at me and will not settle until we go for a walk ive tried all sorts and shes not having any of it !
Now the mornings are getting darker im a bit of a whimp and dont want to walk in the dark across dark fields but i cant seem to get away with taking her any later.
Has anyone got any advice on how i can make walk time later ?
I cant do 2 walks a short one and long one as im on a time limit as leave the house at 7.50 for work.
Can you not let her out in the garden first, as it may be that she just needs to have a wee ?
Or if not, when are you giving her her dinner at night, is it too late, are you feeding her breakfast before or after you walk her ? If it is a wee, have you tried taking the water up at night ?
Abbey does get let into the garden for a wee while im doing bits in the kitchen first thing, so i know its not because she needs the loo.
She has her brekkie after her walk about 6.45 but because she has been going off breakfast for a while now i have started scattering her dry food around the garden for her to find and she eats it all
Abbey has tea about 6.00pm.
It is so frustrating as she just follows me round whining and barking waiting for her walk I know its my fault for getting into a routine but i cant seem to get her out of it .
Would it be an option for you to do another walk later at night let's say 8pm after 2 hrs from her meal. It might help her letting off her steam and mayne ne netter in hte morning as she would be tired from her evening walk? Is it something possible?
I know this may be a solution to everything, but the only way I get Rolo to stop barking is to COMPLETELY ignore her. It drives us nuts when she barks, but she always gives up and goes away if we ignore her. Could Abbey have just got into the habit of barking, and if you talk to her, say stop it, or take her out then it's worked?
Mojo was in a fairly set routine when she was diagnosed with ED. She had to have two weeks cage rest, with only 5 mins out of the cage 4 times a day. I just HAD to do it.............She didn't actually whine or whinge, but she just kept giving me those " are we going out now "eyes. I felt soooo mean, but it only took about a day for her to settle, albeit she was a little lively when she did get let out for a pee .
Just choose a routine to suit you and stick to it...Abbey will accept it very quickly .
Right i have tried very hard this morning to just ignore Abbey it is 6.25, i was sat typing and she was barking and nearly jumped on my lap she was getting very cross so i have come upstairs and on the pc up there !!
i havent took her out yet, i was going to try and wait until about 6.45.
I am just going to have to perservere and she will have to WAIT !!!!!
hehe hard isn't it I'm an early riser too Lorri, but I just couldn't get myself organised for to leave the house so early! What about my mascara!! EEK! Has she stopped yet?
