Hi Nic- I've used the flower rememdy 'Mimulus' before - its supposed to help with irrational fears. I just put a couple of drops in the dogs water and then have a few drops myself!!!! Brilliant for trips to the dentist!!!
Might be worth a try -you can buy it at any chemists that sell Bach's flower remedys.
Love Becs and the Gang
I'll get some Mimulus and really go overboard with the clown act!
We can walk on the other side of the road so I'll do that too. I think partly even when I'm being silly, half of me is worried he's going to get loose from me somehow and run away, or that the Alsations are going to come tearing out of the house!
I'll try to concentrate 100% on him and being fun rather than worrying about things.

I think you've probably hit the nail on the head there Nic. Can you get someone else to walk him without you? As I'm sure he is now picking up all sorts of vibes from you, without you even realising.
I had to do a similar thing with my horse....he had spooked and thrown me off a couple of times in the same place (two GSD's jumping at a gate) and without realising it, I was getting tense every time we approached this house, so of course he would play up, dance about and generally be very scary. So in the end a friend of mine took him out on his own....he went past this house (with the two dogs throwing themselves at the gate) without a second glance...made me out to be a complete liar, he did . He was ok after that and so was I....so I know it must have been me .
Ohh Nic, i don't have any advice but i really hope you're able to help Joey overcome his fear. It's strange how he comes accross as a really confident dog but theres obviously a reason he doesn't like those alsations if only they could speak
I use to walk Alfie past a house with a GSD and it would put its head under the fence and bark and growl like crazy, the first time it did it, neither me or Alfie was expecting it and it freightened us both, ever since then Alfie seems to start walking slow and holds back alot trying to not walk past. I'm sure the GSD is just protecting his territory but it is quite intimidating as its such a big dog and i was unsure if it could actually get out from under the fence I did the clown act and made out everything was fine and it definately helped him. Thankfully we rarely go past that house though but its an awful feeling to see them so scared and not know how best to help.
