Great Mary, I was forgetting we had people with local knowledge who could help find somewhere!
I'd have no problems paying more if a 2-dayer was organised, but I think that maybe the day-trippers would end up choosing one day or the other, and then it would take away from the 'main day'?
What I'm trying to say (unsuccessfully!) was that everyone had a great time Saturday, and I wouldn't change it as it worked brilliantly!

The man even said he takes his dogs for a walk around the lake offlead but he said they have to be on lead on the campsite |
I was told the same after being told off for walking Millie up by the toilet block (onlead!!!).

Hi Rhoni,
Wow - you've had a hectic time, yeah what happened to the weather hey! Lovely heatwave and then rain, rain and more rain! i suppose it had to come sometime, it could have waited two more days though!
Frank sounds like he had a great time.. lol.. i'm sure he's come home with a few new words!! He sounds like a real character!!!!

Hi Everyone,
As a few things have been mentioned about the GT, and a few thoughts on next year's too - thought i'd just add my thoughts now while they're fresh in my mind.
Two day event - A lovely idea, especially for those who have travelled a long distance. Would have to think about the events carefully, and the cost involved. Not sure if Kingsbury Water Park will be the venue next year, but we'll be sure to let you know much earlier on where/what/when etc., as far as next years GT goes.
Costing - all depends on venue... what we will do though i think for next year, is take a deposit from GT attendees before we actually book so we have a definate number of the no.of people attending. If we get things going earlier too, i.e. the date and planning we'll prob get a better attendance too. We'll keep you posted anyway - research on possible other venues is already taking place.
Labbies of Lead - Whilst i appreciate it is quite hard keeping our lovely labs on the lead all day on the day of the actual GT (i remember last year with Braddie was quite tiring) it is essential for the safety of themselves, other people, children & other dogs also. As much as we love our labs and think we know them, we don't know 100% what could happen if they come off the lead especially when in different busy surroundings, lots of people and most of all, loads of other dogs. My moto is better to be safe than sorry... especially under circumstances such as swimming in the lake. Just take Kingsbury for example, perhaps there wasn't so much algae this year, but there are other dangers - large fish, wildlife & of course once one wants to go in, then many more will want to - and it was the wish of the management at Kingsbury itself that requested that we don't allow labs in the lake. (plus the high number of swans.. did you see them? )
The campsite - yep very familiar story i'm afraid, whilst travelling in our two year time out in our mhome, i could count on one hand the amount of campsites that did allow Brad off the lead.. i'd probably say 2, 3 at the most, and we stayed in 100's! Once again though, i would imagine this is for safety reasons, of the dogs and other people.. unfortunately not everyone is a doggy lover either, and the wardens do have quite a hard job as it is.. i suppose once again they are acting as they feel best. Personally, i think if i ran a campsite i would stick to this rule too... just my opinion anyway. You'd be really surprised at the number of campsites that don't allow our doggies.... We had insurance, but can you imagine what would happen if we were faced with the 'what if' situation.... it's just not worth the risk is it.
Perhaps next years venue will have a place where the labbies can have time off the lead, where it will be safe for themselves and other people too. A lot of planning will be put into place though, and of course you'll all be the first to know once something is decided.
I would just, while we're on the subject, like to thank Rhoni for enforcing the rules (off lead, no swimming etc.,) as this was a request of not only the campsite/Kingsbury Water Park, but myself and Dave too. You did a cracking job of everything Rhoni - for which we are very very grateful.
Well, thanks for listening everyone - myself & my lovely co-ordinator from this years GT (thank you Rhoni) will do some research, in the meantime if anyone has any ideas on venue possibilites, perhaps you wouldn't mind emailing me with the details julie@labradorforums.co.uk. (thank you)
I'll be in touch again soon ok - hope you are all now well rested, and of course your furry friends, oh and before i go i must just say that the photos are great!!!!!!
Julie
