I was pondering to myself as I was hanging out the post-camping washing this morning about how well-behaved and sociable all the dogs were at the weekend. Considering the range in ages and that most of them hadn't met each other, I think they were superb and everyone of them an excellent example of the breed and why we love them.
There wasn't one that I wouldn't have liked to have taken home with me, and how often can you say that? Even the little pups and youngsters were having a grand time and I only saw a few incidents of argy-bargy and that was mostly Ugo throwing his substantial weight about!!! (Sorry little Wendy and Pheebs )
The old and grey-bearded dogs were a delight and even the 'Kevins' weren't Kevinish at all- just good-time-guys!!!!
I particularly fell in love with little Bailey (SOOO pleased that he won the Best Pup prize- especailly after all the trouble they had getting to the GT) the gorgeous hunk, Baxter, (he would make the most beautiful pups in the world- shame that he's about to loose his 2 veg ) little, dainty Rubes, the ever-so pretty Kyra, Uncle Jack-the -Essex boy (loved his little jig!!!!) Joey - a real boy-dog!, Majic and Dexter who didn't stop playing and wrestling all day, Vogue and her lovely bruv Richie, Beth who gives the best puppy-snogs in the world, Beautiful Feather who wasn't quite brave enough to get out of her car although I reckon that by next year she will be the life and soul of the GT and her lovely sis Jazz who loved to mingle! Oh and sooo many others that I could go on all day about. I'm really sad that I didn't meet some of the other dogs (and peeps!) that I wanted to - I keep seeing their posts and thinking 'I didn't even know they were there' but the day just flew past so quickly.
Also, I thought that all the children were so well socialised and obedient!!!!
I know how difficult it can be to keep dogs AND kids entertained and happy but all the children there were just a pleasure to be around and added to the one-big-family atmosphere. I've raved about it so much since I got home that even my own 2 'kevins' have said that they might just possibly agree to honour us with their prescence next year and, considering they think that LF people are the most uncool in the universe thats not bad going!!!
Its confirmed my belief that Labrador people are not only the nicest people in the world, but they also have the nicest dogs and children. When I die I'm going to follow the signs to the rainbow bridge and lookout for where they are holding the heavenly Labrador GT cos I think I'd feel right at home there!!!!
I 'm getting all emotional now thinking about what a good weekend it was (I really do need to get out more!!!!!) so I shall stop!
Well mine OH got a bit fiesty when we were putting the tent up and very fiesty when we realised we had a leak in the airbed and he had to sleep in the dog cushions instead, but apart from that I suppose he was quite well-behaved!!! Maybe just a small training program to smooth off the rough edges for next years GT!!!!
Also considering in a row of about 20 tents there must have been about 30 dogs I thought they were fabulously well behaved over night too especially as lots were first time campers
And what a real pleasure to meet you and Dave and Ugo the mini-tank (I think he looks like a Baxter puppy!), and beautiful pale Echo and clever crutch-picking-up Zorro! Hope you enjoyed your chinese!
I agree that they were all so well behaved - I thought it was going to be quite hard work with the camping and all, but they took to it like labs to lakes! I really do think they had a great time too and just loved being outdoors the whole time.
Wish I'd got to meet everyone too - at least I now have a lot more faces to names, although I did point out who I thought was Karen & Corbie across the ring and Vicky summed it up when she said that Karen didn't look like that in her head! Still more to meet then I guess.....!
My mum nearly had an argument with a woman while doing the washing up the woman said there was alot of dogs on the site and it would seem all of the owners treat their dogs as if they're the be all and end all when really they're 'just dogs' she also said she'd seen lots of dog mess about so we obviously hadn't been cleaning up after them etc etc my mum told her that our dogs are part of the family and if she owned a dog then she'd realise what great company they are and also said that our LF gang were responsible owners and cleared up after our dogs and pointed out that there was infact other dogs on the campsite who also poo and considering how many labs there was, they were all very quiet at night
I bet it was that woman who complained everyday about us
