Barley (9 months) has reached the Kevin stage. She is great most of the time but if she is out of my sight she is so so so naughty. She jumps up on the kids, steals food out of the bin, digs in the garden, rips up anything she can, has destroyed kids trampoline.....oh the list goes on.

I feel like I am constantly telling her off and today she wont come to me as I think she is afraid I will tell her off *again*. All I wanted to do was wash off her muddy paw from her digging but she literally wont come near me Crying or Very sad I hate to think she is becoming scared of me Sad

I dont know how to deal with her during this stage. Do I just keep her with me all the time so that I know what she is up to? I like to leave the back door open for her so that she can come and go as she pleases but it seems that her way of entertaining herself in the garden is to destroy something (or everything).

Help!!!!! I am going insane!

Kevins do grow up-eventually!

I'm waiting for my last 2-legged one to finally shake off the kevin stage.

I'd have dogs instead any day!!!!!

you and me both! Bailey is only 6months and has entered this stage - he cannot be alone in the garden anymore because he will always find something to chew on - he has finished teething pretty much and has never been a chewer - he now will not come when called and will genrally ignore anyone telling him otherwisewise

I would say Barley isnt scared of you but avoiding you and being more naughty - you dont chase her do you? does she still cuddle you and have one to one time? if cuddle time is normal then i wouldnt think she was scared - she has just twigged if she dosent come to you then she wont be told off, work on her recall in training sessions and call her often just for the sake of her coming to you even when she isnt doing anything wrong and praise her - that way she will know she wont always get told off when she comes to you

I took him back to basics - right back - made sure i am walking through doors before him - making sure he only jumps on the setee upon my say so sitting before meals etc etc.

I'm going through the same thing with Danny - he's 7 months. His recall is appalling and he's very cheeky! He is systematically destroying the garden...and everyday he goes through a period of doing nothing but bark and nip me. Mad and saying no seems to make it worse!

I've also gone back to basics...although at this stage I don't know what good it's doing...

Millie is going through the kevin stage too - and what with the settling in period too you can imagine what its like here! I tear my hair out sometimes with the things she does - but then I look into those brown eyes of hers and all is forgiven in a flash!

Kia is at the Kevin stage too! Telling her off is no good - she just barks right back! We have to watch her like a hawk when she is in the garden because she will dig when no-one is around. She trys to pull the socks off mine and hubby's feet and nips our toes. If she wants something she can't have she will sit and bark at it.

If she is really naughty we have a small room where she goes for a time out. We normally leave her for about 5 minutes.

How long does this stage last??? Shocked Kia is 11 months now.

Back to basics as everyone says. Charlie was exactly the same, but they do improve in time, though as Vicky says, you may not notice it for a while and then realise how much better things are. Very Happy

Charlie cratered our garden (once quite nice looking) so that it more resembled a lunar landscape, became deaf to recall, and always seemed to be trying it on. I just looked at it as a bit of practice for when I have adolescent children (the eldest seems not that far off it now). Shocked

Helen.
