When all our dogs have been young we have used a Lupi to train them not to pull. It is like a harness and fits under their arm pits therefore restrains them from pulling. Would definitely recommend and you can get them in small sizes.

They are usually on sale at pet shops and vets.

I have a halti for Danny - it really works. We still have the problems that everyone is listing with Danny (7 months) - he is absolutely brilliant in the house/garden when training, but get him anywhere with any distractions and getting his attention is hard work.

He is great on his flexi lead, but when on his short lead does have a tendancy to pull (unless he is really tired). The halti works great, although he doesn't like it!!!!

I prefer the halti for what it's worth, I don't like the idea of harnesses, as I think this encourages pulling rather than preventing, it also gives the dog more "weight" as they use their whole body, rather than just head or neck...

I use and would recommend a Halti too, It makes walks sooo much easier and it is a training aid and not a long term thing. Once you have got them walking nicely without pulling on a halti then you can try weaning them off the halti onto a normal collar and lead.

Abbey has had a halti now for 5 months and we walk to the park with it on then have an off lead play then we walk home on just her collar and she is fine, but we always have the halti to hand so if she starts pulling the halti goes back on Wink
It is also a safety thing for us, as i know somebody who has a doberman X who was a puller and he pulled his owner over and put her back out , she had to crawl home !!!! Needless to say he wears a halti all the time now !

Harnesses can encourage a dog to pull more with all their body weight, so if he is already a puller it maynot be the best option. Although i know their are some anti- pull harnesses on the market.

we looked at haltis today but wasnt sure what size he would need. it says size 3 for labs, but that would be a full grown lab. we didnt know how adjustable they are. Bailey is 4 months old and weighs 14kg, so still has alot of growing to do. anyone any idea what size we would need?

I use a Lupi for Twig on street walking and when I have her on the long lead on Clapham common near the roads and it is Brilliant there is no pulling as the Lupi sort of Lifts them up and transfers the weight up rather than forwards

I use it as an aid - as she is quite stronge at 9mths and 33.5kgs - but I also walk without it on the way home way she is tired andn walking nicely as she gets lots of praise for "walking nicely" and I know she Knows when she is doing it right - she is just so young and excited by life at the moment
I looked at getting some one-to-one training as she was such a little minx - but realised that I just needed to spend more time with her and constantly praise her when she does it right and use the Lupi when she doesn't . I think I only have another year or so to go!! LOL

The size 3 halti is massive !! Abbey has the size 2 and has been that size since she was 5 months old !!

I lost Abbeys first halti up the park - so bought a size 3 cos i was sure that was the one she had and it just swamped her so i had to take it back and swap it for a number 2 !!!

Hope this helps !
