Today, on LL, a Lab was reported missing.

Sam dissappeared on the 31st of July. Lovely 5 yr old choc boy.

As always either 3p or I contact the owner direct offering one to one help, advice and support.

3p called the ' owner ' as she thought. Was infact an LF and LL member and the owner of the missing lab was her neighbour.

To cut a very long story short......

Sam was found tonight at a kennels where the dog warden had taken him on Monday afternoon

The neighbour had rung both the dog warden today ( and earlier in the week) and the kennels who said he wasn't there.

If 3p hadn't insisted the owners / neighbours went to check for them selves....Sam would be lost as she then discovered he was due to be PTS on Sunday by the kennel if he had not been claimed.

Sam was chipped......maybe the chip wasn't readable..or migrated..or maybe he didn't have a full body scan...who knows...either way it didn't save him.

Hate to say it...actually no I don't......if Sam had had a tattoo he would never of been at risk.

We really need to lobby for EVERY animal agency to full body scan EVERY found animal...............and ( just from us LL girls..tattoo too ) Wink

Please everyone read and understand......Sam was a family pet....and so close to being lost because of lack of time and ID.

Welcome home Sam, thank God you are safe.......and wtg 3p !

What a lucky thing 3p insisted the family make a personal appearance, I was told that as well when CJ went missing last uear, most of the time when you call they don`t go and look or check their books, I was very lucky that the place CJ ended up were on the ball and DID check their missing dogs book.

Question Rhoni, are kennels/shelters in the UK primed to check for a tat on any dog they receive?, just wondering because I know its still relatively new here.

Thank goodness Sam is back home where he belongs and also thank goodness his owners have a LF/LL member for a neighbour!!

Mary, unless they grab the dog by the tail from the van and hurl it straight into the kennel it will be very hard to miss Wink

Tattooing has been with Greyhounds and GSD for many decades and if they have any nonce about them they will know all breeds are now using them and check. KC acknowledge them, breeders use them, it should be as obvious to check, as a chip, and certainly easier.

Hope this answers your Q
