Oh well if he's fine now, maybe it was just one of those strange blips they seem to have. If only they could talk , eh Wink . At least you've got him sorted out and normality has returned Wink

Just as a thought, if this happens at night then it may be an idea to get his eyes tested. PRA starts with a reduced vision after dark before progressing to total blindness.

I may be completely wrong, but it's worth looking into.

Regards, John

... damn good suggestion John. A dog outside all day and all night alone may well develop fears and phobias at the oddest time. Its also a possibility that someone has tried to break into your garden, or come and disturbed him 'for a laugh' kids can be cruel these days.

Despite him having always been an outside dog, would you consider him sleeping in at night? NOT because he has made this decision with his behaviour and you are 'giving in' in some way but because it is far safer for him and will dispel your problem in one quick and highly sensible move?

Outside dogs generally have company, two dogs together, breeders with kennels (like myself) wouldn't dream of sleeping a single dog out alone, these are pack animals naturally after all. If you object to your dog being in your house then I would fit a VERY good padlock on the run for whenever you are out and at night. Theft is on the massive increase, also local blackmail... your dog is taken, you are immediately phoned or sent a note to hand over a certain amount of money and then your dog is turned loose near your house and hopefully makes his way back to you.

He almost certainly has had some kind of very negative experience, which is impossible to guess at on the internet, and its probably your warning sign to bring him in at night.

Di
