With the weather heating up, its very important you are aware of the dangers, it was this time 3 years ago I nearly lost Jack, and we were at home and it was after a very hot night.

Thanks for this thread everyone.

Brought Ernie home Friday and have been a bit concerned about the heat, so I've been keeping him in mostly, and in the shade when outside. Nice to know that I can spot the symptoms now.

I bought China a Swamp Jacket last year... a lot of money but as she is a squashy nosed boxer with a heart condition who believes she was built for sunbathing I felt it would be a good investment.

Took her out when the heat had died down around 7 pm with the jacket on and when we got back (road walk = 1 mile) she did not do her normal flop down on the concrete so looked good.

Took her out next day same time, same sort of temperature, but without the jacket and when we got home she flopped on the concrete to cool down.

A few days later I had to take them out earlier due to school, so very hot day, around 5.30 pm - wearing the jacket. Got back and she was panting but no more than the others and she did not flop down to chill.

That was enough for me to decide I had made the right choice for her as she is a dog who does not believe in taking things easy.
