Hi all,
With all this hot weather we have been having recently i have been racking my brains for ways to keep our labs cool in the event this weather continues.
As yet all i have come up with are the usual - paddling pools and gazebos etc
I was just wondering how many people were planning on bringing paddling pools (or are now planning to bring ) to the Get Together??
Also, trying to fill all said pools could take a while........so i was wondering if anyone had one of these......
It will certainly make the job of transporting vast quantities of water to the pools with a little more ease than buckets
Just thinking out loud really.......
If anyone has any other ideas of how we can keep large numbers of labs cool in this weather or if anyone has the above and wouldn't mind bringing it with them......please let me know - also an idea of who will be bringing a pool or two I know we will have the car packed to the rafters as many of you will which is why it may be a good idea to have numbers
I think it is something we have to be aware off and prepared for
One tip I have for you (and boy it is HOT HOT HOT in the south of France so when I go to agility show I have to make super efficient arrangements), get a large reflective alluminium blanket and put if OVER the roof of your car when it is parked, place as many sun reflector/visors as you can around each of the sides of the car but leave the windows open a bit to allow a good amount of air to circulate. Result seriously cool, cool car where you can quite happily leave a labbie to cool off for hours. I do this and don't worry at all about leaving Coco in the car - in fact I get in with her to cool down. I also leave a bowl of water in the car too.
Drape them in wet towels, make cool drinking water available at all times
i went to a show with dexter the other week, it was boiling.. all the labbies had wet towels draped over them, it really made a difference to dexter who lay there asleep with it on!!! i'm planning to do the same for the gt - assuming there will be taps around?
There are taps there but a little walk away - hence the need to get easy water transporters - if we have the water to hand all day then said towels can be kept soaked rather than people walking off one at a time
hmm so does that contraption roll along? can you imagine.. me being dragged along by 2 labs, dragging one of them behind me!?? or maybe i could get them to pull it!!! hehehe, good idea though for those of you with enough hands!!!
Yes i had thought of that myself............... i figured i would have to stand inside the handle so it hooks round my waist and as i was being dragged along by the boys the bottle could just roll along behind me
That said we need to see if anyone has them or we'll all be in a line doing pass the bucket
Thanks for starting this thread. I did check the predicted weather for the 19th August and even though they say it may be slightly cooler ( only predicted mind ) it will still be hot.
It is so difficult for the pups in this weather, ok for us in cozzies and shorts but they are wearing 2 coats
For those that were not there last year the parking area is next to a line of trees, which may offer some shade ( depending of time of day )although will still be warm.
Most people sat in the main circle ( which was plenty big enough for Tilly to drag me round in all directions and not hit a soul ) but there is def no shade there so it is a good idea to gave this some thought, just incase it is still this hot.
As Baileybear suggests maybe a note of any gazebo's , pools, equipment coming might be useful although I have to remind those having their pups tattooed, they would have to be just gently led in to cool rather than splash about and affect the tat ( should be fun to watch )
Apart from a couple of other roles Kaye has yet to discover she has aquired by the very nature of this thread she has unwittingly assumed the role of water monitor too .....
So if anyone has / able to bring anything that can help in this dept please pm Baileybear.....as all my pies and fingers are used up atm....
What about big golf umbrellas? I know you may only get one Lab under, but better than nothing if you don't have the room/energy/enough hands to carry too much. (as long as its not windy lol)
I can BRING a gazebo, but as for putting it up, carrying it, taking it down, etc there is no way on earth i can manage that alone with 2 labs!!! so if anyone wants to do the hard bits, i'm happy to supply the gazebo
