Hi
About 6 weeks ago Beck started to scratch quite a lot, he's always had an area on his chest which was thin on fur but this is now quite a big patch, but no sign of irritation or redness - just bald! Also he seems to be mainly scratching in one arm pit (leg pit!) there is some tiny red sores there, but nowhere else...the last itme we were at the vet he gave us Stronghold instead of Frontline for flea treatment, he said it was better particuarly for sheep ticks. I was wondering if it was a reaction to this? The only change over this time is we have been giving him Vet vits (Glucosamine) perhaps he is reacting to this? Has anyone else had similar issues with either of these products. I've stopped the vet vits to see if it improves and will post accordingly. Trying to put off going to the vet until last resort as whatever you go with it always seems to cost £50 - £60 for starters!

i sounds more like demodectic mange, which eva had!
eva had a bald patch on the top of her leg and around her eye, even though eva didn't scratch her bald pactchs some dogs have been known to scratch!
i would ask the vet to do a skin scrapping, just so that you can rule out an allergic reaction!
hope this helps

Possibly some sort of contact allergy. Coco has had a lot of nettle rashes on her belly recently, these have been quite red and sore, then turning scabby but they have cleared up now. Antihistamines helped.
You could try a loratadine tablet or a piriton tablet to see if the pink spots calm down. (I think the dose is about 1 tablet for 30kg dogs but please check before you give it)

I had thought it might be mange...but, having read coco's post the nettle thing sounds more likely - we walk through paths which have nettles over hanging and as Labs do, Beck charges through them as if they dont exist, we get stung to bits and I always presumed that a dogs fur/skin was tough and they didnt feel it...although the fact it is in his arm pit may not link with that...I'll give it a few more days and if it hasnt changed or worsened, it's to the vets we go...better start saving!
