Sorry to be a numpty, but does this mean all green algae is poisonous or is it a special kind? Tarka ofen goes into a pond in the forest that has green algy on it.......

It is only Blue/Green Algae that is poisonous Pat. The vast majority of algae are completely harmless. If you google Blue Green Algae you can see images of what it looks like.

Often though, it cant be seen. The Leeds Liverpool canal and holding lakes around the Nelson area are full of it.

I have been told that Derwentwater ( at keswick ) has an outbreak of algae i think that there are signs up to stop people and dogs going in, but there is nothing on the councils website
