I know this is a bit of a late reply but I thought it important to mention to anyone in my locale area.

The River Alyn at the Alyn Waters Country Park has BG algae, but no posters up. I noticed it one day when taking Osca for a walk and recognised the algae straight away so didn't allow him in the water.

Also the lake at Acton Park is affected, but the Water Authority have placed warning notices here.

This dispels the myth that it is usually only found on still water. The Scottish Water Board (nowhere near where I live but I found it a good source of information on this subject) seem to be very proactive in managing and warning about this algae.

Can someone tell me how you tell the differance between this blue gree algae and normal algae.
As we walk our dog around a couple of lakes and she also jumps in for a swim.
I have noticed algae there but i suppose you are going to get some algae anywhere there is water.

I just need to know how i could tell the differance so i know if its safe for the dog.

Paul

Better late than never as usual with me. However, Hogganfield Loch, just outside Glasgow is full of this horrible stuff. They do have signs up though. Needless to say Penny and Kara are never off lead near the water as they make a beeline for it, but I'm amazed at the amount of people who do still let their dogs and their children into the water here.

The stuff is horrible and when the weather's warm it really stinks. There are a lot of geese, ducks, and swans, on the loch, I'm assuming they're at least a contributing factor if not the cause.
