Dear All

For the sake of my other half please can you let me know who feeds BARF ?

Any problems with it ?

He is under the impression that raw chicken will make Jansen sick...

Thanks

Laura

I do Smile Pheebs has been fed raw meat and bones since she was 7.5 weeks old (now 14 weeks) and it has NEVER given her an upset stomach Very Happy

As you can see from my album pics, she is the picture of health Wink shiny coat, bright gleaming teeth (minus one as her first baby tooth fell out today) Very Happy

There is another thread called "Changing to BARF -we're up and running" or something like that and it will give you all the information you need to take to your OH Very Happy

Good luck - Pheebs loves her meat and bones, she refuses to eat kibble now heheehehe Laughing

I feed our dogs BARF and it has not upset them or made them sick. They seem to enjoy it more than the kibble. The seem to be able to eat the bones without being sick. Give it a go and if she doesnt like it change back to normal kibble ( or if it upsets her stomaxh)

As Holly has said we feed BARF and the was exactly the same as your OH at first. We thought bones would get stuck in their throats and we`d end up at the vets, but my boys love it.

Have just put in my Landywoods order (website for BARf food) and it comes in 3 weeks. Got a second freezer from e-bay and am really looking forward to the boys being totally on BARF.

The other advantage (nasty subject I know) is that the raw bones seem to firm the dogs stools up, which makes for easy poopa scooping.

We feed amber raw as well, with absolutely no problems so far (we're 4 weeks in). I think it's natural to be apprehensive, it's kind of drummed into you that bones are lethal for dogs but in reality it's only cooked bones that are harmful. There also seems to be a lot to get your head around when starting up, but it's fine once you get going. Amber is as excited as a puppy at mealtimes these days, it's lovely to see, she clears her bowl every time! We've noticed an improvement in her coat already, and he poos are so easy to clean up now its incredible - there's also a lot less of them! I'd never go back to kibble now - we will be changing our other lab over soon too.

CJ and Cindy have been on BARF for almost two years no, I`ve had no problems at all with either of them, Cindy being a Westie can`t eat as big bones as CJ, but she darn well tries and I have a job getting them off her when she`s struggling Laughing

I have a friend who`s in the process of changing her GSD as well and the improvement in his coat is amazing in the 2/3 weeks he`s been changed, it shines now and of course he loves the bones and raw food he gets, she to was worried about the bones things, her vet like so many was against it, wanted to have him in and do 100`s of piunds worth of tests on him, he`s not going to need those now I don`t think! Very Happy

Wendy's been on BARF as well. She's almost 17 weeks now and growing very well! She used to be on Burns before but was really skinny and rather small. Changed over to BARF and she has really bulked up and is growing more to potential (not fat).

Her poo is rock solid and thank the stars, she no longer eats them!! Because it is all waste and not undigested food, she leaves them alone now. The only 2 times she's had soft poos, is when I've given her dairy stuff.

My OH was totally against it in the beginning too. But now, he's with me 100%. But I confess, I still haven't had the guts to tell my vet Sad But, she hasn't been sick at all or choked or anything so I havne't had to heheh.

Oh has read this thread & is ok now ... thanks.. Laughing

Fortunately we have a good butchers just down the road, so have tried Jansen with some chicken wings which he loved once he got the idea he was meant to eat them ! He also has a bone that the butcher gave us for free, which has kept him entertained for ages ! much better than the pigs ears he used to have, as he wont be able to choke on it. so for now we are ging to keep him on kibble with some raw stuff, is that ok or should it be one or the other ?
