Quick question to everyone, can i feed my labs sardines (in tomato sauce) instead of Pilchards? Will it give the same effect on their coats? I noticed Java's coat getting a bit dry maybe because of the anti-flea formula i sprayed on him a couple of weeks back. Would 1 tin be sufficient? Java's 8 while Koby's 2 months --just in case u need to know. Thnx in advance.

Mia eats any fish (so far our 3 goldfish have escaped). She loves Tuna, Sardines Pilchards. She loves them all.

Any of the oily fish is good. The only reason I use Pichards is that by and large they are bigger than sardines.

LOL - I agree John - I find pilchards better value for money splitting a large tin between two, or keep one or two back tfor myself to have on toast Very Happy

Karen, although nothing wrong with tuna itself (although there were warnings about humans consuming too much tuna because of mercury levels some time ago), tinned tuna does not contain the omega 3 essential fatty acids that are beneficial for the skin and joints.

Jenny

Hi

I give Abbey sardines in olive oil.

Maybe the oil also helps to hydrate their coat, might be slighty better than in tomato sauce !
Only a thought !

i gave Java his first taste of sardine a three days ago and he suddenly developed some kind of allergies ... red spots on her belly and blotches on his hind legs --and keeps on scratching. i suspect its the sardine because its the only thing he got differnt that day --- though i did caught him licking a pan with traces of coconut milk.

any of u guys experienced this? the reaction is totally opposite of what i was expecting from what i read in here Sad

Could be he is allergic to them - were they in tomato sauce? If so it could be that. The only way you will know for sure is to let the symptoms die back and then try him on them again, but that won't be very pleasant for him if he is allergic! Very Happy

yea thats what i'm doing right now ... he still itches but the red spots are gone. however, i'm not too sure if i should try sardines (minus the tomato sauce) in the future though he acts pretty normal as if nothing was wrong i still sort of feel guilty for causing it. : Embarassed
