I'm starting to panic a bit now as the GT is fast approaching and I've still not got a tent!!

I really don't know where to start and have never been camping before, and all our nearby outdoors shops don't seem to have tents in store Rolling Eyes

So what should I be looking for, and any recommendations?

I don't want anything massive - probably a 4-sleeper, with room for a dog! And nothing to pricey, but thats going to last if we decide we like camping!

Any thoughts anyone? Rolling Eyes

have you read my 'help me I need tent advice thread?

I must confess I am very happy with mine - i worked on the basis a real cheapy would cost £50 and if it was horrible we wouldnt ever be camping again. The travel lodge for the 2 nights at the GT would have been around £100 so i figured anything around that figure and I wouldnt have wasted any cash (all the more for collars and leads eh hehe) I ended up spending £150 ish but my tent is theretically an 8 berth - oh i would take the 'berth' with a pinch of salt (mind you you are skinnier than me hehe)

Also we have a queen sized blwo up mattress which we bought first so had to have bedroom bits that were big enough.

A sewn in groundsheet for the bedroom bit is a must to avoid escaping puppy syndrome - i would have loved a total sewn in groundsheet for living area too but couldnt find one.

it looks quite good, again not a fantantatic make tent and not much detail but it should be ok, also theres only 1 sleeping chamber (two would be good to shut the kids in!) and also the 2 types of cooking thing being sold, although very good for lightweight camping are difficult to use and you havent a great deal of control over the temperature of the flame. I know how to use them both but1 type (Hex cookers) are used by the army - solid block of fuel that burns and the other (trangia type) - burning methelated spirit with limitedf control favoured by senior scouts rangers hikers etc but not so much for family camping.

just me being blonde cos nic said a 4 man tent.

in that case i would go fo a design like the vango one, thats what i'll be taking for me and chris (chris likes his creature comforts) and of course vogue pickles and richey.

I think Nic is being like most people Lucy, she wants a tent for that`ll sleep two adults and a dog comfortably!, I think the people that design these things think that sticks are going to be sleeping in them, not anly that they don`t move at all in the night! Shocked

Mines a 3 man, last year it was ideal for me an CJ, hopefully this year it`ll be ok with Cindy in it to, apart from the growling over who`s gonna sleep on mum`s head Laughing Laughing
