>> Labrador Who Swallowed Eight Golf Balls
Posted by julieadmin on Saturday, February 13 @ 22:22:00 GMT (2361 reads)
Toby the Labrador was left feeling well below par after swallowing eight golf balls, and now his golf-loving owner is on the lookout for a new caddy.
The yellow Labrador from west London was taken to the vet by his owner when he went off his food and an x-ray revealed that he'd eaten eight golf balls.
His owner, Jerry Murphy, is a keen golfer and takes Toby with him while he plays, but was more than surprised when x-rays showed that his dog was as keen on golf as he was.

>> Labrador brings deadly snake home in Melbourne, Australia
Posted by julieadmin on Saturday, February 06 @ 21:58:31 GMT (1392 reads)
MELBOURNE (Australia) - OWNERS of black labrador Bronson were stunned when the dog arrived home with a deadly snake wrapped around his nose.
According to the story in the Herald Sun newspaper, the snake coiled around Bronson's snout and locking his jaws closed, was believed to be a deadly copperhead.
'He's normally an excellent duck dog but he'll pick up absolutely anything and return it to us, hanging on to it until we say 'give',' explained Bronson's owner, Deborah Allen. 'My husband Peter didn't know he'd lost his mobile phone out in a paddock recently until Bronson returned with it in his mouth.'
Bronson was lucky his owners were at home on their property at Yarragon, outside Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria, when he got home. As the couple tried to decide what to do about the situation, Mrs Allen took a photo of the unusual sight.
'But he had a real forlorn look on his face like he was saying 'Hurry up and take this thing',' Ms Allen said.
Once his owners had captured the snake in a hessian bag, Bronson was rushed to the West Gippsland Veterinary Centre where a coagulation blood test confirmed Bronson had copped a bite. Four days in hospital followed on a drip, but Bronson is now happily at home.

In the second series, Sirjack finished 4th out of the remaining 35 dogs left in the
Super Retriever Series. This qualified him to advance to the 3rd series semi finals of
the overall Super Retriever Series competition.
Sirjack was now competing against the top 12 dogs in the country. Sirjack gave it his
all and finish in 6th place! He missed making the Super Retriever finals by one dog! His
journey ended today but everyone said that his performance was incredible and he showed
one of the biggest hearts out of all the dogs in the competition.
Sirjack will be taking home a purse of $800 and the respect of all the competitors,
trainers and judges that were present. I can't tell you how proud I am of Sirjack!
Sirjack is my buddy and my little chocolate champion!

>> National Microchipping Month - June 2007
Posted by julieadmin on Saturday, May 05 @ 10:13:12 BST (2030 reads)
NicolaL writes "June sees the fifth annual National Microchipping Month organised by the Kennel Club, with special efforts this year from veterinary surgeries who will be holding microchipping clinics in their local area to support the campaign.
Microchipping clinics are part of a nationwide effort to encourage and promote responsible pet ownership through microchipping as the best method of identifying pets in case they go missing. They provide a great opportunity for pet owners to develop their understanding of the process and the support and services available to them and their pets through Petlog, the Kennel Club’s Pet Identification Service.
This year’s campaign is supported by Petlog Premium, and is set to be bigger than ever with the introduction of Petlog Premium Lifetime Membership, making it easier for pet owners to keep their contact details up-to-date. This is so crucial in our ever changing society, where people’s lives are busier and more people move house, in order to help reunite lost pets with their owners. With membership to Petlog Premium, owners are offered an online service to update their records at any time, anywhere, with no extra charges.
Marc Abraham, resident vet on Channel 4’s The New Paul O’Grady Show, comments “With so many pets going missing every year, we really try and promote responsible dog ownership through Petlog Premium. The responsibility falls on the owners to keep track of their pets, and Petlog Premium is a safer and more effective way then the standard collar, and will stay in place for life.
“Whether they’re lost, stolen, strayed, or even involved in an accident, this is the only reliable way of ensuring your pet has a chance of getting back home to you safely.”
Said Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary; “So many people are still unaware of how simple, effective and necessary it is to microchip their pet. It’s not until their pet goes missing that they really become aware of the value of the service they have available to them. That’s why National Microchipping Month, supported by Petlog Premium is so important to the Kennel Club. It promotes responsible pet ownership and raises awareness of how often pets do go missing and how easy microchipping really is.”
