Default Toby's brother Harry with ED

Just found out that Toby's twin brother Harry, who is a Londoner has Elbow dysplasia.
How likely is it, that Toby will get this too, Toby and Harry were the only 2 black boys in the litter and look identical. (other than Harry has had his nuts removed)
Toby shows no signs whatsoever and hares around like a lunatic.
Will this affect just individuals in a litter ?

So sorry to hear that Tobys litter brother has ED.

Hopefully it wont affect toby .

Storm my 10mnth old lab has ED and is recovering from an op which he had done in Aug. There were three that I know about in Storms litter

One thing that I would def. do is ensure that you have insurance as to date it has cost us 4000 just to be on the safe side

Sorry to hear Toby's sibling Harry has ED, I can't speak with experience but Mischa's sister had ED diagnosed in one leg first and an OP to fix it, then the following year had to have the second leg done.

Mischa has had no problem with hers so far and she will be three this xmas.

I have not heard that any others from the litter has had a problem so far, also the sibling that had the problem was kept by the breeder for a future litter, but of course will not be used for mating now.

I would not worry if Toby shows no sign of a problem, but would take care with him to avoid it happening if possible.

June

I am sorry to here that Gary but hopefully it will not effect Toby I suppose it is like us even twins suffer differently. I know you will worry but no signs have been seen yet in your Toby so hopefully that is a good sign.

Poor Harry Hopefully he can be treated to live as full a life as any normal labbie. Happy to share/compare experiences with them if they want...

I think all you can do with Tobes is watch and monitor. Would it reassure you to know that Luna limped for a couple of days a month from about 6months - 12months, then she limped for 2months at a year old and was rested for ages. Since then she's only limped twice in 2 years -I think - despite living a full life of occasional hoolies and agility although I did treat her as if she had ED in that time and tried to be sensible with her activity/rest balance. I think that hopefully if Toby hasn't shown signs and doesn't show signs in the next 6months or so he'll be no more likely than any other lab to have ED.

Oh and keep his weight low!

Apparently Harry has been limping for pretty much his whole life and has had lots of x rays, which showed the ED, he is on his 3rd course of anti inflamatries in a year and has to have a CT scan to see how much damage is done.
Toby has not limped once since i have had him, Today i took him to work and then to Attenborough nature reserve, where he has gone his usual beserk, run run run, swim swim swim, so may be i and he will be lucky and live a healthy life, free of ED or HD.
Toby and Harry were 1 last friday
